To ensure continued trouble free operation of your drinking water filter system
First thing in the morning or if you haven't used the filter for 12 hours or more, before using the water from the filter, it is a good idea to flush the faucet for a few seconds down the drain. If you've been away and haven't used the filter for more than several days, flush a quart down before using.
The longer the water is in contact with the carbon, the better filtered it will be. Your flow should be no greater than 3/4 gallon per minute (3 quarts should be delivered in one minute). If the flow gets very low which it may with time, it is sometimes possible to increase it (#3 below) (Some units contain a postfilter cartridge that has a flow restrictor built into it. With this type, it is neither necessary or possible to adjust the flow rate. Call us if you are unsure – we keep records on this)
Once per year filter replacement is typically fine for a family of four or less. If your usage is particularly heavy, you should replace every 6 months. This is a task we are happy to do for you and at the same time, if you are somewhat "handy", it is fairly easy to do yourself. See the Procedures for Servicing a Dual Carbon Filter for detailed directions. We suggest putting a sticker on the filter housing or bracket reminding you when to change the filters next. If you have purchased on of our systems, Colorado Water Wizard also keeps track on a database and we will call you when it is time for service.
